Woman and Child Attacked by Pit Bulls in Southwest Houston
Dec. 8, 2016
Earlier this month a woman in her thirties and a twelve year old girl were attacked by two pit bulls at an apartment complex in Southwest Houston. Luckily, a neighbor came to the woman’s rescue while her arm and leg were being bitten by the dogs. After attacking the woman, the dogs attempted to bite a young girl, but were thwarted by a neighbor with a croquet mallet. Paramedics and police arrived on the scene. The dog owner claimed that he did not know the dogs had escaped.
Sadly, every day people are attacked by vicious dogs in Texas. Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Dobermans and German Shepherds are some of the most frequent attackers. Many insurance companies have exclusions for certain breeds of dogs like the above, so dog owners many times do not have insurance to cover the damage their dogs inflict on innocent people. Sometimes, homeowner associations may be held responsible depending upon where the dog attack occurred and how the dog escaped from its owner’s yard or home.
Texas law requires that a person injured by a dog prove that the owner knew or should have known that the dog was aggressive prior to attacking the injured person. This element of the law may be proven if the dog has bit another person or shown aggressive behavior in the past. We actively investigate claims for our clients in order to prove this element of the case. When seeking representation for a dog bite injury, it is important to retain a lawyer that has experience handling dog bite lawsuits and knows what it takes to win your case.
