Study Finds High Failure Rate in DePuy Synthes Attune Total Knee System
June 2, 2017
A study compiling data from several doctors found an unusually high rate of failure in the ATTUNE system. The study was published this year in the Journal of Knee Surgery (Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc.). There is a high rate of debonding at the tibial implant – cement interface. The MAUDE database revealed 21 reports of tibial loosening in a short two month period.
The FDA approved the DePuy Synthes Attune Knew System in 2013. The DePuy knee replacement system is still implanted today in patients. Patients with a loose tibia plate experience pain, swelling, discomfort and other complications. Some patients have experienced pain without X-rays revealing any failure in the system. However, several doctors discovered loose tibia plates or improper bonding after revision surgeries despite any signs of failure in the X-rays.
